Vented vs Non-vented Gas Logs

At an instance where one may need some cozy glow of the fire with much less hassle on the fireplace for wood burning, a gas log fireplace would be most appropriate. The use of gas logs ensures an ambient warmth of the wood burning with less maintenance and mess. There are two most available styles of gas logs which are the non-vented and the vented. The choice of the logs depends on various factors which include efficiency, appearance, and availability of a fireplace. For the vented gas logs, they require a fully functioning fireplace while the non-vented can be installed either in the vent-less fireplace or a wood burning fireplace. Both the vented and the non-vented has their pros and cons and the choice of whichever the logs one may choose depends on various variants.

Vented Gas Logs
For the vented gas logs, they create a more realistic fire like flames that makes it look just like a traditional wooden fireplace. These are the large yellow flames that move about rising and going down just like for the wood does. The vented gas logs are additionally set up in a wood fireplace makes it very easy for the owner to switch to a traditional wood burning if he or she wants. And just like it is in the traditional wood burning, the vented gas logs produce a carbon monoxide gas and hence the operation of this gas logs requires an open flue damper or chimney. Due to this functionality, the chimney allows a path for escape of the heat and hence making it less efficient as their counterparts. A further downside of the vented gas logs is that their require much more fuel in the combustion as compared to the non-vented gas logs and hence if it’s a case of saving fuel, I think the non-vented would be a much wiser choice. Non-vented Gas Logs
On the other hand, non-vented gas logs tend to be more efficient in the distribution of heat the room and the entire house but much expensive as compared to the vented gas logs. Their efficiency in the distribution of warmth in the house is attributed to the fact that they have no vents and hence all the heat is retained in the house as none is lost. Additionally, the vent-less gas logs are in most cases fitted with an Oxygen Depletion Sensor that continually measures the available oxygen in the room before it can reach some dangerous level and in defense, it turns off the burner in time. The design functionality of the non-vented gas logs is to the production of a clean smokes flame. However, the frame to this logs is small and unrealistic as compared to the vented gas logs.

Conclusion
Both the vented and the non-vented gas logs each has the advantages and the disadvantages. Of importance to note in the choice of the logs is find one that suits the design of the home, the efficiency and the outlook of the whole thing. The non-vented gas logs take the day for their efficiency in heat distribution and because their design is a smokeless one, gives it the advantage that the home will still retain the ambient freshness but warmer as compared to the vented. The choice solely lies with the owner and purpose required.
